That's why the Abdominal Cancers Alliance is committed to providing trusted, patient-friendly resources that help you make informed decisions alongside your healthcare team. When you or someone you love is diagnosed with peritoneal cancer, understanding treatment options can feel overwhelming. Along the way, you may hear about newer therapies that aren't yet widely available and wonder whether they might be appropriate for your situation.
One of those emerging treatments is Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC).
PIPAC is a minimally invasive procedure that delivers chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity as a fine, pressurized mist. Unlike traditional intravenous chemotherapy, PIPAC is designed to target tumors on the lining of the abdomen while limiting exposure to the rest of the body. Although PIPAC is not currently considered a standard treatment in the United States, it is being evaluated in clinical trials and may be available at select specialized centers.
