Advancing Peritoneal Cancer Care Across Latin America: The Alliance at PSOGI LATAM 2026

The Abdominal Cancers Alliance is proud to share that our President and Co-Founder, Dr. Armando Sardi, participated in the 5th Latin American Congress on Peritoneal Neoplasms—PSOGI LATAM 2026 in Cartagena, Colombia, alongside Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, a pioneering leader in the treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies. Together, they contributed their expertise to this important international gathering focused on advancing collaboration, education, and specialized care for patients with peritoneal cancers.
Dr. Sardi served as moderator for Appendiceal Tumors and Pseudomyxoma Peritonei. This important educational session brought together specialists to discuss rare and complex diseases that can affect the appendix and spread throughout the abdominal cavity. Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, a pioneering leader in the treatment of peritoneal surface malignancies, also attended the congress and shared his expertise with participants.
Conferences such as PSOGI LATAM provide an essential forum for surgeons, oncologists, pathologists, researchers, and other healthcare professionals to exchange knowledge, review emerging evidence, and strengthen collaboration across institutions and countries. These conversations are particularly valuable in the field of peritoneal surface malignancies, where access to experienced multidisciplinary teams and specialized treatment can make a meaningful difference for patients.
Dr. Sardi’s participation reflects his longstanding commitment to advancing the understanding and treatment of peritoneal cancers. As a surgical oncologist and a leader in the field, he has dedicated his career to caring for patients with complex abdominal cancers, educating clinicians, supporting research, and expanding awareness of specialized treatments such as cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy, commonly known as CRS/HIPEC.
His involvement also reflects the Alliance’s commitment to fostering international collaboration. Although healthcare systems and treatment access vary across countries, patients and families everywhere share the need for accurate information, timely diagnosis, expert evaluation, and compassionate support. By connecting clinicians and advocates across borders, the international medical community can help improve awareness and strengthen care for people facing these rare diseases.
