After my CRS/HIPEC surgery, one of the hardest parts of recovery was dealing with ongoing bowel pain and digestive issues. The pain was unpredictable and disruptive. Every week or two, I would miss work because my body would not cooperate. There were days when the cramping and discomfort were so intense that all I could do was lie in bed for hours and wait for the pain to pass. It affected my schedule, my energy, my confidence, and my ability to feel like I was getting back to normal life.


I looked for small, manageable things I could add to my routine that might help calm my digestive system. One simple change made a surprisingly big difference for me: a mix of turmeric and black pepper added to my daily diet. I started by mixing small quantities of turmeric and black pepper into coffee or milk. Though I'll admit that it took some time to get used to the taste it became an easy daily addition, and after I started using it consistently I noticed that my bowel pain symptoms stabilized and became less likely to completely derail my day. It helped me gain a little more control over my body again.


Every patient’s body is different and what helped me may not work the same way for someone else, so talk about incorporating supplemental nutrition like this with your doctor first - especially if you're on medications or in treatment! 


For me, this little change became one of those “I wish I had known sooner” tips: simple, affordable, and genuinely helpful in getting pieces of my life back.
